In order to promote green thinking and combine it with getting useful teaching materials for the study program “Pharmaceuticals” subject “Pharmacognosy”, medical plants were planted in the College’s beautiful garden at the beginning of June.
In cooperation with the RSU gardener, various medical plants were planted, such as alchemilla, wormwood, thyme, various types of mint, lovage, dragon's head and others.
The Head of the study program “Pharmaceuticals” Artūrs Praškilēvics points out that the medical plant bed is meant not only for making the garden beautiful, but also to enrich the study process of the future pharmacist assistants. The study program “Pharmaceuticals” gives the students an opportunity to learn in depth about medical plants, their harvesting and preparation, as well as about their active ingredients and therapeutic effects.
The medical plant bed was created and is now under the care of students of the study program “Pharmaceuticals”. It has been done implementing the College’s Development Strategy 2021-2027 about environmental sustainability measures (such as completely minimizing the use of office paper, recycling paper and cardboard and sorting rubbish) and is the first big step towards the promotion of conscious green thinking in the students and lecturers of the College.
