Red Cross Medical College of Rīga Stradiņš University implements virtual reality technologies into the study process as an innovative support tool to strengthen students’ professional competencies
Red Cross Medical College of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU RCMC) is introducing Meta Horizon virtual reality glasses (VR) into the study process, expanding learning opportunities and offering students an innovative, digitally supported learning experience.
Virtual reality provides students with the opportunity to practice clinical skills, develop problem solving and decision-making in a safe simulated environment, when faced with various patient care situations. Such an approach allows students to make mistakes risk-free and analyze their choices, thus strengthening the ability to act thoughtfully in real clinical practice.
VR allows students to put themselves in the shoes of a patient – to experience what a person with movement disorders, vision problems or chronic pain might feel.
The implementation of Meta Horizon technologies is a significant step in the strategic direction of the RSU Red Cross Medical College to create an innovative, digitally developed and values-based study environment that strengthens a human-centered approach, student professional competence and the ability to think creatively in healthcare.
